Description

The general postal service is one of the means of communication and one of the hobbies of the ancient civilization. This method of writing, sending, delivering and receiving of letters or documents is continued up to the present time. Private letters were being sent by slaves as they can possibly do through messengers appointed by Romans for the deliberation of military and public orders.

In the early years of the 13th-century, personal communication through postal service was recalled. The history of communication posts for private and industry purposes began in the year 1516, when Roger, Count of Thurn, established sending messages in the Tyrol, connecting Germany and Italy. Postal Service started in Europe. A general post office was then established in England by First English Postmaster General, Sir Brian Tuke, who was described as the “Magister Nuncrorum, Cursorum, Sire, Postarum.” During the time of Queen Elizabeth, the postal service was mostly administered by the incorporated merchants who employed couriers within themselves.

There was a penny postage endeavor for England, two-penny postage for Scotland, and a four-penny postage for Ireland. But it was not granted by the government because of the political surveillance and individual venture.

France and Germany established their own postal system. The French courier was founded by Louis XI in 1464, that was expanded by Charles IX in 1565, with the help of Henry IV and Louis XIII.
