Description

October 9, 1871: The Burning of Chicago: Poems of the Great Chicago Fire or Great Chicago Fire is a collection of poems of the history concerning the cause, extent and outcomes of the widespread of The Great Chicago Fire, insurance fatalities and medical assistance. A short satirical poem was written in the middle part of the book about the incident.

The enormous fire occurred for three consecutive days in the history of Chicago. In the evening of October 8, 1871, the fire started in Dekoven Street and vastly spread by a tough southwest wind far reaching the wooden edifices in the community and was very uncontrollable. The fire continued for two nights and two days as it moves to the extensive city of the West, dumping an unsightly view of smoking shambles which no one has ever expected.

The scene was so unpleasant one could never sought of, an area of three and one-third square miles, dark and fuming, covered up with broken and blackened rocks, distorted pipes and burnt shafts, with bits and pieces of bricks scattered all around. Many had lost their lives, a count of two hundred and fifty. About one hundred thousand casualties were taken away from their homes. More than seventeen thousand infrastructures were damaged, as well as the enterprises. A lone habitation having an area of seventy three miles has survived.

The whole world sympathized with the incident and extended their help from all sectors. They immediately reconstructed the whole city. A year after, infrastructures have ten miles of facade which cost a lot of charitable funds and these destructions were widely restored. In three short years, the city was finally restored even better than the old city before the fire. Destruction had emerged to test the might of the city. Chicago did not fail in reinstating their losses. Chicago became more formidable and highly developed after the great fire.
