Description

Arthur Hugh Urquhart Colquhoun had written volumes of history of Canada and this is one of his major works. Some of A. H. U. Colquhoun’s interesting books include Recollections of the American War, 1812 – 14; Recollections of the War of 1812; The Niagara Frontier in 1837 – 38: Papers from the Hamilton Correspondence in the Canadian Archives; Recollections of the American War, 1812 – 14 Volume 1; and all other books penned in his own name.

Canada had been an allegiance to Great Britain during and after the War of Independence of the United States. The major changes of the years 1830 and the start of 1840 brought to a Popular Government and a union of Upper and Lower Canada in the year 1841, but several citizens still wanted confederation of the provinces into a unified and centralized government. It took more than two decades or twenty years for it to be realized. This history led the chronicles of the birth of the Dominion of Canada.

The geography of Canada is split into administrative divisions which are known as provinces and territories that delivers the sub-national governance. Canada was founded in 1867 with three provinces of British North America – New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and the Province of Canada, which on its formation was divided into two, Ontario and Quebec. These provinces were formed to create a federated colony, and expectedly turned into a sovereign nation in the next hundred years.

Canadians, unlike the Americans, have not made a point of traditionalizing their political thought. Whereas, Americans are concerned with gathering their nationals around tradition, particularly the regular iteration of republican norms. They systematically study their political thought in national and historical manner that Canadians do not. But others refuted such that in any way, Canadians do have a specific tradition of political thought.
