The Cariboo Trail is precisely written and tells the story of the developmental change of British Columbia specifically the gold-field.

Chronicles of Canada Volume 23 – The Cariboo Trail: A Chronicle of the Gold-fields of British Columbia was written by Agnes Christina Laut. She was a journalist, novelist, historian, and social worker from Canada. She was born in Stanley Township, Huron County, Ontario to parents John Laut and Eliza George. Her family moved to the frontier town of Winnipeg in Manitoba, and Agnes finished her studies at the age of fifteen. She worked as a teacher at the Carleton School in Winnipeg for numerous years and continued her studies at the University of Manitoba. She quit schooling after two years because of her poor health.

She was engrossed into writing since then, and her works were published in the New York Evening Press, and the Manitoba Free Press. She made a trip to the continent from Atlantic to Pacific, contributing articles to periodicals. She resided in the United States particularly in Wassaic, New York. Although Laut already lived in America, she remained a devoted Canadian nationalist and wrote books to delight the Americans about her beloved country.

Her works include her first novel, Lords of the North; books about the evolution of Canadian territory, the history of Montana, and settlers traveling the Santa Fe Trail; Canada, the Empire of the North; and other historical works mostly related to her country.
