Description

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) of the United States was founded in 1958, upon the passage of the Federal Aviation Act, and has been in charge of regulating every aspect of civil flight travel ever since. The Administration’s roles includes managing and supervising the construction of aircraft and airports, managing air traffic and ensuring the proper certification and training of pilots and other flight personnel. The latter is one of the most significant responsibilities attributed to the FAA, and has led to the publication of books such as the Airplane Flying Handbook.

Volume 2 of the Airplane Flying Handbook FAA-H-8083-3A covers only chapters 11 through 15 of the complete book, and focuses mainly on transitions to complex air craft such as multi engine, turboprop and jet planes. This volume contains considerably more advanced technical knowledge compared to Volume 1, and is essentially designed as a technical manual for introducing beginning pilots to the most basic pilot skills and technical insight required for flying an airplane.

The book starts out by describing the transition to complex, multi engine planes and the concept of turbo charging. Further sections of chapter 12,14 and 15 offer a great deal of detailed information about in-flight procedures and maneuvers performed on complex airplanes, as well as the most relevant limitations of the technology and the main issues to keep track of when it comes to unique situations involving reverse thrust, low-speed flight and flying jet planes.

This FAA handbook provides a smooth transition from the previous volume, continuing the training began through basic flight procedures and maneuvers by complementing them with a more thorough technical background focusing mainly on the transition to some of the most complex aircraft available for civilian use.
