Caroline Snowden Guild was one of the most prolific and most popular authors of children’s books in the 19th century. Born in Boston in 1827, she was widely known for her hymns and fairy stories from an early age. She published Violet: A Fairy Story in 1856, then other two of her much appreciated stories entitled Minnie and Daisy: or, The Fairy Spectacles during the following year, in 1857. She also published books about educational topics such as her Summer-House Series published between 1859 and 1864 about scientific subjects and books about religious topics such as her Hymns for Mothers and Children published in two series in 1860, Prayers of Ages in 1867 and many others. She wrote, compiled and published almost two dozens of books, to the greatest delight of young and adult readers.
