Description

The Wild Wood and The Open Road are the stage for the adventures of four very different friends. When Mole breaks though the surface of the ground that has been his entire existence until the day he felt the imperious urge to ‘go up’ he is amazed at all the sights and sounds around him. His wanderings bring him to The River Bank and there he meets his first friend.Ratty the river rat, welcomes Mole and immediately shares his love of messing about in boats and begins introducing him to the River Bank community. Within the day the new friends have agreed that Mole should stay with Ratty awhile and learn the art of rowing among other things.

Mole is impulsive and emotional. Toad is vain and ineffective. Mole and Toad tend to get themselves into difficult spots and are helped out of the situations by their strong and steadfast friends but each of them grows from their experiences and in the end all work together triumphantly to win Toad’s home back from the Wild Wood weasels and ferrets.

Once the invaders are routed, the friends start to band together to curb Toad’s bad habits which have brought him into so much trouble. The four friends extend hospitality, generosity, compassion, understanding and forgiveness to each other and those in their idyllic community in the course of all their adventures.
