Description
William Tell Told Again – A Unique Fairytale Take on the Famous Legend With this story, P.G. Wodehouse basically proved that he is capable of far more than just the usual twisting humorous tales that he may have had us accustomed to. William Tell Told Again is a story that basically parodies the legend of William Tell, changing it quite a bit when compared with the original, while also keeping it light-hearted, entertaining and suitable for the whole family to read – a true gem in Wodehouse’s fairytale portfolio. Wodehouse takes the liberty to somewhat expand on the William Tell storyline itself, while also adding a few extra characters and making some inspired modifications that will make the read all the more entertaining. Introducing characters such as Arnold de Sewa – an individual who constantly considers himself important enough to be chosen for the best jobs in town, while the townspeople mostly can’t help but disagree with him – while also keeping the story different from his earlier school stories, the author goes into uncharted territory, and manages to masterfully lead his readers to “safety.” Even though some of the changes and additions may not have yielded the results that were expected, as some of the more serious parts of the story could simply not be turned humorous, the story is generally kept on track, and features many tasteful, elegant and interesting twists that will keep readers interested up to the very end. Although fans of the Jeeves series and Wodehouse’s previous work might have some difficulty in fully engaging this children’s tale at first, you’ll find it easily grows on you, and you and your kids will have a few great laughs while enjoying this fun and interesting adventure. There’s never really a dull moment in William Tell Told Again, and you may find it to be a light, pleasant, as well as an effortless read overall.
