A man is provided with the gifts of life, air, marvels of the world, at times free food which a man finds in his own vicinity, emotions and the like. James Thomson who penned using the fictitious name Bysshe Vanolis, was a Scottish Victorian era poet renowned mainly for the lengthy verse The City of Dreadful Night in 1874, an example of austere cynicism in a desensitized, selfish urban surroundings.
