Allegedly instigated by the Sherlock Holmes tales, Austrian criminal jurist and examining magistrate Hans Gross created the primary reference book on criminal investigation. This exposition includes everything from the traits of a good investigating officer and how to employ several experts, to schemes used by criminals, how to scrutinize footprints and blood stains, and methods that criminals commit crimes. A few of the comments relay straight to India, including covering up a person’s standing.

Hans Gustav Adolf Gross was an Austrian criminal jurist and an examining magistrate. He is thought to be the formator of the area of criminalistics and is to this moment perceived as the father of Criminal Investigation. He was a professor at the Chernivtsi University, Prague University and the University of Graz. He was also the father of the Austrian psychoanalyst Otto Gross.

The publication of his guidebook Handbuch für Untersuchungsrichter, Polizeibeamte, Gendarmen or Handbook for Magistrates, police officials, military policemen in the year 1893, is signified as the creation of the area of criminalistics. The reference brought together in one system areas of knowledge that had not been formerly incorporated, including psychology and science, and which could be well used counter to crime. Hans modified several fields to the necessities of criminal investigation, including crime scene photography. In 1912, he formed the Institute of Criminalistics which was later called Institute of Criminology, as a division of the University of Graz’ Law School, which was to be abided by a number of similar universities around the world.

Criminal investigation is a useful science that includes the study of details, treated to distinguish, trace and establish the culpability of an indicted criminal. A full criminal investigation can involve searching, interviews, interrogations, gathering of evidence and conservation and different manners of investigation.
