His books were translated in almost a hundred dialects, and he is among the greatest French writers. Most of his classical fiction books were printed as series, such as The Count of Monte Cristo, The Three Musketeers, Twenty Years After, and The Vicomte de Bragelonne: Ten Years Later. His fiction books have been made into about 200 film adaptations in the early twentieth century. Dumas’ final work, The Knight of Sainte-Hermine, was not completed because of his death, but was finished by an academic and printed in 2005, and became one of the best-selling novels.
