Description

The Adventures of Bindle is a sequel of the original Bindle book written by Herbert George Jenkins (1876 – 1923) in 1916 – Bindle: Some Chapters in the Life of Joseph Bindle – and it is definitely worth the read, whether you’re already used to the Bindle novels, or you never picked up any of Herbert Jenkins’ works in the past.

Perhaps the only real criticism that readers could bring to the first Bindle book is that there aren’t enough appearances made by the beloved Bindle. The character who had captured the hearts of British readers in the early 1900s returns in this hilarious novel written in 1919 to further entertain and thrill readers from around the globe. At the time of his appearance on the literary scene, Bindle was considered the most popular and well-designed cockney character presented on paper since Charles Dickens wrote The Pickwick Papers.

In this sequel, Bindle appears once again, trying to help Mr. Henty advertise for his new shop. Additional stories, such as one where Bindle decides to take in a lodger or where Lady Knob-Kerrick’s drawing room was mysteriously transformed into billets for soldiers will also present you with some of the funniest situations Jenkins ever came up with.

The Bindle series mainly focuses on comedic drama set around Herbert Jenkins’ time period and situational comedy revolving around life at home and at work. Aside from the books already mentioned, Jenkins also wrote several other Bindle novels, including Mrs. Bindle: Some Incidents from the Domestic Life of the Bindles and Bindles on the Rocks.

For a truly delectable, lighthearted reading experience you won’t find a better novel to read than The Adventures of Bindle. As you explore the unlikely events and stories that Bindle’s character painstakingly finds himself put through you can’t help but enjoy every page of it, and start looking for all the other Bindle sequels Jenkins has published.
