George Wharton Edwards was a U. S. impressionist painter and illustrator, and the writer of a number of writings of travel and ancient subject matters. George enrolled at Antwerp and Paris. He joined the Cos Cob Art Colony. He was art director of Collier’s magazine. He was manager of the art department of the American Bank Note Company. He was both an author and illustrator for Harper’s Magazine. He was awarded with many prizes at an art exhibition in Boston, and then received honors from different places in the United States and Countries in Europe, such as The Order of the King of Belgium, The Order L’Académie française d’Art, Chevalier of the Legion of Honor, Chevalier of the Order of the Crown of Belgium, Chevalier of the Order of Isabella the Catholic, and Chevalier of the Royal Order of the Crown of Italy.
