Publius Cornelius Tacitus is deemed one of the greatest Roman historians. He adapted the transience of his Latin prose and lived in the so-called Silver Age of Latin literature, also known for his views in psychology of political power. Tacitus was from the provinces of northern Italy or Gallia Narbonensis. His family is equestrian and called as knights. The equites are lower of the two ranks of the aristocratic classes of ancient Rome, who ranks next to the patricians who cartels governmental power during the era.

Tacitus studied rhetoric in Rome in his preparation for a career in law and governance, like Pliny, his friend, and admirer who gave him letters, also studied under Quintilian. His wife Julia Agricola, daughter of the popular general Agricola. He enjoyed hunting and the outside. He was successful as a lawyer as well as an orator, he is also great in public speaking.

He gained a seat in the Senate and became suffect consul during the time of Nerva. He was the first of his family to be remarkably excellent. As an orator, he was highly regarded too when he addressed the funeral oration for the well-favored veteran soldier Lucius Verginius Rufus.

There were five works Tacitus have pulled through. The list of the author’s works with estimated years: 98 – De Vita Iuli Agricola ( The Life of Agricola); 98 – De origine et siter Germanorum (Germania); 102 – Dialogous de oratoribus – Dialogue on Oratory; 105 – Historiae (Histories); 117 – Ab excess divi Augusti (Annals).

The Annals is one of the most advanced historical records to pertain Christ, which Tacitus relates with Nero’s persecution of the Christians. Anti-Christian policies were implemented for over two centuries. This is mainly because of the refusal of the Christians to sacrifice to the Roman gods. This insulted the gods and put them in danger, punishing them with force and violence.
