Description

Channing Arnold and co-author Frederick J. Talbot Frost were English archaeologists who journeyed to the Yucatan Peninsula and wrote “the first book ever written by Englishmen on Yucatan, that Egypt of the New World, where it is broadly professed, Central American Civilisation ended up at its highest point. For the present time at most, the only Englishmen who claimed to have discovered the primitive and uncivilized north-eastern sections of the Peninsula and the islands of her eastern coast.”

They concluded in their studies and contemplation, opposing to the majority of the body of other modern day experts, “that America’s first architects were Buddhist immigrants from Java and Indonesia-China.”

The chapters include illustrative connotations: A Bird’s-Eye View of Mexico; Mexico City and the Mexicans; Yucatan and Her History; First Impressions of Yucatan; A Yucatecan breakfast, and Other “Sights”; Amid the Palaces of the Itzas; Valladolid and After; In the Footsteps of Cortes; El Meco to Puerto Morelos; In Search of the Mayan Mecca; On the Southern Sierras; Copan and Quirigua; Palenque, Menche, and on the Usumacinta: the Ancient Mayans; Who were the Mayans? Who were America’s First Architects?; The Age of the Ruins; Hieroglyphics and Paintings; Slavery on the Haciendas; Yucatan as it is Today and the Yucatecans; The green Gold of Yucatan; and flora and fauna. The book comprises twenty-two chapters, a must read for those who are interested to know much information about the places mentioned in the book.

This book illustrates the scenery, tradition, culture, society, and history of Central America, not to mention the Asian contribution to the state. After which, it developed into a vast structure. Central America is the southernmost part of North America which is connected with South America where Central America is bordered by Mexico to the north, Colombia to the southeast, the Caribbean Sea to the east, and the Pacific Ocean to the west.
