Description

Edgar Rice Burroughs caught the imagination of generations with the creation of Tarzan -the ape man. While his first novels are better known, “Jungle Tales of Tarzan” are a return to origins, which depict a series of adventures occurring sometime during the events of the first novel.

This novel was published in the form of several short stories in Blue Book magazine during 1916 and 1917. They were finally published in the form of the novel in 1919. The stories in the novel take place within the 11th chapter of the first Tarzan volume, sometime after the young man avenges the death of his beloved mother and his recognition of the apes as the leader of the tribe.

There are 12 stories, each giving readers a new insight into the legendary Tarzan. Several of the stories are loosely based on a single plot, dealing with Tarzan’s courtship and love for the female Teeka, which ultimately fails; you will also enjoy reading about his fight with the male who conquers the heart of Teeka, Tarzan’s rescue of the ape-boy resulted from two apes’ relationship, and much more.

There are several other stories such as the capture of our hero by a village of cannibals who had just settled near the territory of the apes and how he was rescued by his majestic and trusted elephant Tantor. Two stories deal with Bukawai, the witch doctor of the nearby tribe, his treacherous ways and his attempt to capture and kill Tarzan only to meet the fate he wanted for the brave ape man.

Other stories explore the emotional and spiritual side of Tarzan, such as his struggles with nightmares or his quest to find God after finding some books in the old cabin of his parents.

“Jungle Tales of Tarzan” is a novel that will certainly delight the young as well as the old with a different portrayal of one of the most beloved characters in the world.
