The Gladstone Colony: An Unwritten Chapter of Australian History

$19.00

Description

The Gladstone Colony is an early history that failed to find the colony of North Australia at Gladstone, which is now called Central Queensland. The history details the settlement in Gladstone after the failed colony, the rivalry with Brisbane for state capital, and the famous hysteria of the gold rush. Some chapters regarding colonial ideals of Mr Gladstone, a statesman, orator, Colonial Administrator, theologian, essayist, controversialist, and philanthropist, Homeric student, giving his vindication to bring Gladstone into reality.

Lord Rosebery, with intellect and wit his speeches, told Mr Gladstone that the time has come to write his life in detail, which will be initiated and circulated by a limited liability company. As the proverb quotes, jokes certainly imply the truth, that Rosebery doubted whether he could ever do justice in writing Mr Gladstone’s biography.

Mr Gladstone and the Australian Colonial Empire shared a warm and friendly relationship for several years. Mr Gladstone has been greatly concerned with the issues of domestic statesmanship and his political skills and events entirely devoted to Colonial activities. He was then an undersecretary for the Colonies, and right after he became Secretary of State for the Colonies in the Ministry of Sir Robert Peel, who gave full effect of his ideas on Colonial law and Imperial rule.

The Gladstone Colony presents a full and complete survey of Mr Gladstone’s political relations with the Colonies. A new colony, North Australia, failed to put its mark on the map, but then it was successfully enlisted and the colony was named after Mr Gladstone, though at present, it is called Central Queensland.

James Francis Hogan was an Irish author, history professor at University College Cork, and Member of the Parliament for Mid Tipperary, a UK Parliament constituency in Ireland. He was an Anti-Parnellite Nationalist.
