Description

Robert Burton was hounded with rewriting his medical textbook that he published five more editions. The book was very much popular and in demand at that time.

Melancholy is a feeling of pensive sadness without any reason. It is associated with sorrow, being unhappy, desolate, trouble, fear, grief, passion, or perturbation of the thoughts, any method of dissatisfaction which causes anguish, dullness, heaviness, and vexation of spirit, different from pleasure, happiness, joy, mirth, or delight, causing progression or not. A man who suffers from melancholy has bad experiences, trauma, and the like.

Those people with melancholia are advised to seek medical help, or else, they can do it themselves by helping them do other tasks rather than do the same things every day. There are several diversions on how to seek happiness, leisure, and pleasure in life. Once a man overcomes melancholy, he will realize that he had finally won the battle against the brute monsters in his head. Confidence and a radiant smile will reign all throughout his daily life.

The Anatomy of Melancholy is a very lengthy book with emphasis on subjects such as science, including psychology and physiology, but also astronomy, meteorology, and theology, astrology, and even demonology.

Much of the content of the book consists of passages from ancient and medieval medical officials, like Hippocrates, Aristotle, and Galen. Hippocrates is an ancient Greek physician during the Greece’s Classical period, and was best known as the father of medicine. He has 60 medical texts, which bear his name but mostly were not written by him. Aristotle was an ancient Greek philosopher and scientist. His writings include physics, biology, zoology, metaphysics, and others. Galen was a Greek physician, surgeon and philosopher in the Roman Empire.
