La Dame aux Camélias or The Lady of the Camellias or best called as Camille is a Romance fiction story by Alexandre Dumas, fils and made into a stage play and shown at the Théâtre du Vaudeville in Paris, France. The opera was famed and Giuseppe Verdi set the story into a song. Camille is characterized by Marguerite Gautier inspired by the author’s short real love story with his lover a courtesan, Marie Duplessis. A tragic and romantic story where the lady of the camellias wears a red camellia when she has her period and a white camellia when she is ready for intimacy. Alexandre Dumas, fils was a French writer, novelist and dramatist. He is most popular for his novel, La Dame aux Camélias or The Lady of the Camellias which was adapted into Giuseppe Verdi’s opera, La Traviata or The Fallen Woman, also made into several stage and film shows, usually titled as Camille in English translations. Dumas, fils which is the French word for ‘son’, he was the son of Alexandre Dumas, père, the French word for ‘father’, also a renowned dramatist and writer of classical books such as The Three Musketeers. Dumas, fils studied at the Académie française or French Academy and was awarded the Légion d’honneur or Legion of Honour. Dumas was born in Paris, France, the illegitimate child of Marie-Laure-Catherine Labay, a dressmaker, and Alexandre Dumas, an author. His father lawfully recognized, supported and gave him the best education at the Institution Goubauxand the Collège Bourbon. He was also known for his great works including Aventures de quatre femmes et d’un perroquet; Césarine; Le Docteur Servan; Antonine; Le Roman d’une femme; Atala; Diane de Lys; Le Bijou de la reine; Le Demi-monde; La Question d’argent; Le Fils naturel or The Illegitimate Son; Un Père prodigue; and other interesting and wonderful books.
